6 Easy Winter Beauty Tips To Make Your Skin Survive The Long Night

Sweaters and jackets? Check. Scarfs and gloves? Check. Boots and socks? Check. Wait, something is missing… your skin care products! Exactly, some of you might not know it, but winter skin care requires a whole set of specific rules. When the temperatures drop down, and the cold winds blow, our skin deserves some extra love. In today’s blog post, I am going to warm you up with my easy winter beauty tips 🙂

When the colder months come, the keyword is hydration. While in summer the “skin enemy” can be a prolonged and unprotected exposure to the sun, in winter we have to watch out for the cold. Both can bring about some damage to your skin and lead to premature aging. But fear nothing! All you need to do is to follow these easy winter beauty tips!

Easy winter skin care 101

Applying your moisturizer is The step you don’t want to skip. No matter what your skin type is.

Keep your skin hydratated…

Especially in a winter skin care routine, you want to make sure that your moisturiser of choice contains two key ingredients: ceramides and hyaluronic acid. While hyaluronic acid is pretty well known, ceramides might be new to some of you. Simply put, ceramides is a moisturising ingredient that helps the skin to restore its protective barrier and to seal the moisture in. It is then perfect for those who have dry skin or in winter, when the cold temperatures put a strain on your skin.

…in the right way

If your skin is dry, you might be tempted to start smearing some sort of oil all over your skin.

But let’s be clear: oils don’t hydrate! There is a common misconception that oils are moisturizers. But in reality, they help retain the moisture and provide the skin with vitamins, according to the type of oil we are using. For this reason, always remember to put oil on your damp skin. You can apply your face oil of choice after a moisturizer or after a face spray. But never on dry skin! Water and oil need to go hand in hand in your winter skin care routine.

Keep your skin protected

The sun never goes away! Luckily for us! But this means that, also in winter, we have to protect our skin with sunscreen. In summer, UVB rays are stronger and can cause sunburn. However, in winter too, sun damage can occur, especially if we are at high altitudes. To prevent premature aging, be consistent with your sunscreen in winter.

Take care of your lips too

As I say in my book, we should not forget to follow some sort of lip care routine! Lip scrub is the best thing you can do for your lips, especially in winter. And if you do not own a lip scrub, you can make one at home. Do you like ginger? Follow this homemade recipe. This is one of my favourite easy winter beauty tips and it is yummy too 🙂

Watch what you put on your plate

I know! In winter I feel entitled to eat treats more often… When it is cold, there is nothing better to indulge and have some cake or hot chocolate. And you still can! However, make sure to add also some other healthy foods onto your plate. As I have said, it is important to retain that moisture on your skin and there are some foods that can help you with that. For example, vegetables and the so called healthy high-fat foods. These contain the famous omega-3 fats that are said to improve the skin barrier that allows to lock in the moisture. So make sure to eat plenty of avocados, nuts, fatty fish, olive oil and chia seeds! Don’t forget to drink water regularly too. That is a rule that applies throughout the year.

A cosy but healthy environment

Needless to say that in winter we tend to stay inside longer and more often. That is why, we need to take care of the place we live in. Two things, that we all do, might be jeopardising the health of your skin and why not, your general health too. Hot radiators tend to dry the air in a room and suck the moisture out of it. The result? Your skin gets dry too. That is why, it is recommended to purchase a humidifier to humidify the space (and our skin). Even taking a hot bath could potentially dehydrate your skin – remember to apply a body moisturizer afterwards!

I hope you enjoyed these easy winter beauty tips and that you have found them helpful. Some of these tips are valid all year around though, not just in winter! What do you like most about winter?
