6 Beauty Tips For The Gingerbread Season

6 beauty tips for the gingerbread season

Gingerbread season is here and I have to share all my gingerbread beauty tips with you!

It is that time of the year when fall starts to transition into winter and we are getting ready for the festivities…Layers of clothes are multiplying and our homes start to fill up with the typical christmasy scent of sweet spices.

Gingerbread is a baked goodie whose origin is very ancient and according to different countries or regions, you will find different combinations of spices. However, generally speaking, they all contain: ginger (duh!), cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom and a sweetener such as honey, molasses or brown sugar.

That is why in today’s blog, I have thought to compile all my favourite gingerbread beauty tips in one place.

Gingerbread beauty rituals

Simply put, ginger is great for skin care. This resourceful root contains anti-aging and antioxidant properties which contribute to the appearance of firming and more radiant skin. Ginger (and cinnamon too!) stimulates circulation and prevents free radicals from damaging the skin.

Most of the ingredients that make our delicious gingerbread are not only good for our belly but they can be wonderful for our skin too! Plus the smell, which will put a smile on our face and will contribute to our soul wellbeing too 🙂

Here below, I have gathered three super easy gingerbread beauty tips that you can incorporate in your routine for the winter season.

  • Face mask

The combination of ginger and cinnamon is great for your face and together they make a wonderful combo for a homemade face mask recipe. In a bowl mix together: 1 tsp of cinnamon powder, 1 tsp of freshly grated ginger, 1 tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp of yogurt. You can add more (or less) honey or yogurt according to the consistency you want to reach. Use immediately!

  • Bath and body cream

As mentioned, both ginger and cinnamon are known to boost circulation, which make them perfect ingredients for your body too. If you are suffering from body aches after a long day of work, throw them in your bath tub for a cosy and relaxing me time. Try this homemade ginger and cinnamon bath salts. In a bowl mix together: 4 tbsp of Epsom salts, 1 tbsp of freshly grated ginger, 2 tsp of cinnamon, a few drops of an essential oil of your choice (i recommend something citrusy or sweet like vanilla). Afterwards, run your hot water and throw the concussion in your bath. My special tip: why not using a gingerbread scented body cream afterwards?

  • Lip scrub

The last homemade recipe is a quick lip scrub that will make your mouth water! In a bowl mix together: 1 tsp of honey, 1/2 tsp of freshly grated ginger ,1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tbsp of coconut oil and 1 tbsp of brown sugar. If you don’t use it up, you can store it in a sealed container for a week. However, do not forget that the product might decay quicker as you have used fresh ginger.

Warm toned makeup & perfume

This season is perfect to try a gingerbread inspired makeup. Warm toned makeup is very much appropriate both for work and for going out. Why don’t you try a burnt orange or matte magenta smokey eye paired with a brick coloured lipstick? But there is more! Have you ever thought of trying a sweet cinnamon and vanilla perfume? Well, this might be the right moment of the year. The warm tones in perfumes might be too much in summer but in winter they can warm up our hearts.

Drink the properties

Fun fact about me? I love tea! Freshly made or teabags, I love them all! As I don’t drink sodas regularly (that is a good habit that I have), I still do enjoy flavoured drinks with my teas or occasional lattes. If you want to enjoy the properties of ginger, a very easy drink is ginger tea which simply consists of fresh ginger infused in hot water. Once I was in a Japanese restaurant and they served me ginger tea with the ginger sliced into long stripes. After that, I always prepare my tea like this.

If you want to experiment in the kitchen what about a gingerbread latte? On a stove bring to boil a non dairy milk with a spice combo of ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and honey. Stir well the spices and let the milk simmer for a few minutes.

Hair tips not only for the ginger(bread)

What about a ginger hair mask? Mix together freshly grated ginger with a hair oil of your choice and massage the mixture into your scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash it off. I recommend though trying it first on a small patch of your scalp to be sure that you are not sensitive to it.

In conclusion, ginger and spices are great for your skin, your belly, your body and your soul. They are well rounded remedies that you can incorporate in your beauty routine as off today.
